Introduction

This training module is designed to provide an awareness or basic understanding of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of their transmission, methods of prevention, and other pertinent information. A copy of the OSU Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Program is available here, or upon request from OSU EHS at X7241. Our program is designed to meet the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) Bloodborne Pathogen Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1030.

If you can reasonably anticipate facing contact with human blood and/or other potentially infectious materials as part of your job duties, you will receive additional training from your instructor or supervisor including an opportunity for interactive questions and answers. You should also read OSHA's Fact Sheet on the bloodborne pathogen standard before continuing with this module.

You can test your comprehension of this module by taking the quiz at the end of the last section.

This awareness training module is also available as a PowerPoint presentation.

NOTE:  The information contained in this training module is for awareness/informational purposes only. It is suitable for use as a tool in increasing the reader's awareness of bloodborne pathogens. However, it shall not be used, nor considered to be a replacement or substitute, for any training required by the OSHA Bloodborne Standard.
