This is a list of safety classes available from EHS. This list is not entirely comprehensive, and all classes can be modified to suit the needs of your OSU department or group.  To schedule a class, please email ohsp@okstate.edu or call 405-744-7241.

Required at least every two years for any individual assigned job duties involving an aerial lift.

Arc Flash EHS Instructed

Required annually for all maintenance personnel with the potential to come into contact with energy sources.

Asbestos Awareness EHS Instructed

Required annually for all maintenance personnel with the potential to come into contact with asbestos-containing material during their normal work assignment.  *online course is for awareness only, cannot take the place of instructed course*

Back Safety EHS Instructed

Instruction on how to properly lift heavy objects encountered in various workplace environments. Covers dangers of back injuries caused by inappropriate lifting techniques.

Bloodborne Pathogen EHS Instructed

Required upon hire and annually thereafter for all faculty and staff who may come into contact with human blood or other potentially infectious materials. *online course is for awareness only, cannot take the place of instructed course*

Confined Space EHS Instructed Required annually for any maintenance worker required to enter a confined space as part of their work assignment

Construction Safety (Health) EHS Instructed Provides a general overview of the various health hazards that members can be exposed to on a construction site.
Cost: Free
CPR/FA/AED EHS Instructed American Heart Association’s steps of performing first aid, CPR on adults, relieving choking and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Cost: $30.00 per person / 8 members per class
Eye Protection EHS Instructed Provides a general overview of the personal protective standards, common eye injuries and how to prevent injuries.
Cost: Free
Fall Protection EHS Instructed Required for employees who may be exposed to fall hazards to recognize the hazards and procedures to follow to minimize the hazards.
Cost: Free
Farm Safety EHS Instructed Review facilities and equipment that have the potential to cause hazards. Also, review operations checks, personal protective equipment, operating procedures and how to prevent injuries.

Fire Safety EHS Instructed Classroom instruction on basic fire safety, as well as guidance on proper use of a fire extinguisher.

Hands-on fire extinguisher training.
Cost: $25.00 per class / 50 members per class
Forklift EHS Instructed Required initially and every three years thereafter for anyone assigned to operate a forklift as part of their duties.  Class and hands-on session are required. Members receive training manual and certification through the National Safety Council.
Cost: $25.00 per person
Grounds Safety EHS Instructed Review of operations checks, personal protective equipment, operating procedures and how to prevent injuries.
Cost: Free
Hand Power Tools EHS Instructed Overview of hazards associated with hand power tools, basic safety rules, guards and inspections.
Cost: Free
Hand Safety EHS Instructed Overview of common hand injuries, hand hazards, hand protection during tool use and basic first aid.

HazWaste and Lab Safety EHS Instructed Focuses on importance of applying general lab safety rules and regulations in a laboratory.  Reviews general lab safety information including chemical, biological and hazardous waste storage, handling and disposal.

Hearing Conservation EHS Instructed Required of all employees who are participants of the OSU Hearing Conservation Program.

Heat Stress EHS Instructed Review of hazards of working in high heat, how to recognize and avoid heat-related illnesses and procedures for performing first aid.

Hypothermia/Cold Weather EHS Instructed Review of hazards of working in low temperatures, how to recognize and avoid cold-related illnesses and procedures for performing first aid.

Kitchen Safety EHS Instructed

Review of most common injuries in restaurants and kitchens, hazards most likely to cause injuries and prevention.  *video covers knife safety only*

Ladder Safety EHS Instructed Recognition of hazards related to ladders including proper use, care in handling and maximum intended load-carrying capacities of ladders.

Lockout/Tagout EHS Instructed Required annually for all maintenance personnel with the potential to come into contact with energy sources.

Machine Guarding EHS Instructed Review of regulations, mechanical motions, type of guards, and safety devices.

Managing Chemicals in the Workplace EHS Instructed Introduces the best management practices for managing chemicals in the workplace that were compiled by the Campus Safety Health and Environmental Management Association. Topics include chemical procurement, chemical receiving, inventory management, chemical storage, incompatibles, container management, labeling and self-inspections.

OSHA 10-hr Construction EHS Instructed

The OSHA Construction Industry Outreach Training Programs were developed by the OSHA Training Institute with the intent to assist employers in training and introducing employees to the basic practices of identifying, reducing, eliminating and reporting hazards associated with construction sites.  Upon completion of the 9 training modules provided under this program, the attendees will be issued a card provided by Department of Labor.

Cost: $25.00 per person / 50 members per class

OSHA 10-hr General Industry EHS Instructed The OSHA General Industry Outreach Training Programs were developed by the OSHA Training Institute with the intent to assist employers in training and introducing employees to the basic practices of identifying, reducing, eliminating and reporting hazards associated with their work. Respiratory Protection EHS Instructed Designed for faculty and staff who are required to wear a tight-fitting respirator as part of their job duties.

Scaffolding EHS Instructed Review of standards, what is scaffolding, hazards associated with scaffolding, how to erect and inspect scaffolding and proper use.

Skid Steer EHS Instructed Required initially and every three years thereafter for anyone assigned to operate a skid steer as part of their duties.  Hands on skid steer operations are required.

Slip, Trip and Fall EHS Instructed Identify common causes of slips, trips and falls, how to evaluate your workplace for hazards and how to control these hazards.

Trenching/Shoring EHS Instructed OSU policies and hazards related to excavation work, work practices and selection of protective systems and methods of evaluating the site and of conducting inspections.
