Hot Work Permits
Before welding, cutting, soldering or other hot work is begun on campus, a Hot Work Permit must be issued in person by Environmental Health and Safety personnel. At the discretion of the Safety Inspector, the permits are issued either daily or for the duration of the project.
Failure to notify the EHS office of hot work could result in unintended fire alarms. Repeat fire alarm activation due to unauthorized hot work may result in a monetary fine on the responsible parties imposed by the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
Requests for Hot Work Permits must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance through the Facilities Management Customer Portal.
The following information must be provided at the time of request:
- Location of hot work
- Date and time
- Point of contact
Emergency requests for hot work will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
