This is a list of safety classes available from EHS. This list is not entirely comprehensive, and all classes can be modified to suit the needs of any OSU department or group.

Required at least every two years for any individual assigned job duties involving an aerial lift.

Asbestos Awareness

Back Safety

Instruction on how to properly lift heavy objects encountered in various workplace environments.  Covers dangers of back injuries caused by inappropriate lifting techniques.

Bloodborne Pathogen

Compressed Gas Cylinder Safety
EHS Instructed

Handling, labeling, transporting, and storing compressed gas cylinders. Includes information on cylinder valves, regulators, and fittings as well as emergency procedures related to compressed gas cylinders.

Concrete and Masonry in Construction
EHS Instructed

Covers OSHA and campus requirements, silica control methods, personal protective equipment, and hazards associated with concrete and masonry construction operations.

Confined Space
 EHS Instructed

Required annually for any maintenance worker required to enter a confined space as part of their work assignment.

Construction Safety (Health)
EHS Instructed

Provides a general overview of the various health hazards that members can be exposed to on a construction site.

CPR/FA/AED
EHS Instructed

American Heart Association’s steps of performing first aid, CPR on adults, relieving choking and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Cost: $40.00 per person / 8 members per class

Eye Protection
EHS Instructed

Provides a general overview of the personal protective standards, common eye injuries and how to prevent injuries.

Cost: Free

Fall Protection
 EHS Instructed

Required for employees who may be exposed to fall hazards to recognize the hazards and procedures to follow to minimize the hazards.

Farm and Agricultural Safety Training Program (F.A.S.T.)
EHS Instructed

Initially produced by Virginia Tech EHS department under a grant from OSHA, this safety training program includes 8 different module options: Agriculture and OSHA, Animal Handling, ATVs, Falls, Farm Machinery, Hazardous Chemicals, Manure Pits, and Weather Safety. Modules can be offered individually.

Fire Safety

Classroom instruction on basic fire safety, as well as guidance on proper use of a fire extinguisher.

Hands-on fire extinguisher training.

Cost: $50.00 per class / 50 members per class

Forklift
EHS Instructed

Required initially and every three years thereafter for anyone assigned to operate a forklift as part of their duties.  Hands on forklift operations are required.

Focuses on importance of applying general lab safety rules and regulations in a laboratory.  Reviews general lab safety information including chemical, biological and hazardous waste storage, handling and disposal.

Hearing Conservation

Required of all employees who are participants of the OSU Hearing Conservation Program.

Heat Stress
EHS Instructed

Review of hazards of working in high heat, how to recognize and avoid heat-related illnesses and procedures for performing first aid.

Hypothermia/Cold Weather

Review of hazards of working in low temperatures, how to recognize and avoid cold-related illnesses and procedures for performing first aid.

Kitchen Safety
